“Carolyn Mueller comes about as close as one
can to learning from the source, having interned with Eve
Gentry, a dancer and a Pilates instructor who was trained by
Joseph Pilates himself. With 27 years of experience, Mueller
is so good that some doctors send their patients to her for
core strengthening. Her classes (one to four people) are not
only therapeutic, they’re fun.”

Eve Gentry
said to Carolyn Mueller, "Every time you walk through the door to
the studio, you are a different body." That is how profound the
Pilates method is.
Pilates is a method of
exercise and body/mind improvement that Joseph Pilates developed in
the first part of the 1900's. Emphasis is placed on correct
breathing with each exercise. Concentration (and awareness of the
body/mind connection) is essential as you learn to precisely execute
each move. Your body will begin to move in a fluid fashion as you
gain more confidence, strength and control and realize your own
unique individual self.
Pilates trains you to avoid habitual, repetitive, stress producing
exercises that may produce injuries. Our
Pilates program means no pain because emphasis is placed on quality
of movements.
Joseph Pilates was born in the year 1880 in Germany. He was inspired
to take up several sports including boxing, gymnastic and skiing
after an ailing childhood. In Germany and England he developed the
exercise method that he is famous for: “Contrology.” He moved to the
United States in 1926 and established his studio in New York where
Bette Davis and Martha Graham were among his clients.
